The small group, highly improvised music of the post-war 1940’s and 1950’s inspired some of the greatest and most challenging big band music of a generation. There will be lots of high energy, rarely heard music you won’t want to miss. Hear works from famous jazz artists like Dizzy Gillespie, Tadd Dameron, Sonny Rollins, Thelonius Monk, and more!

Come join the FVO as we celebrate America’s 250th birthday! We will be featuring popular, folk, and patriotic music from the Revolutionary War era through the present day. Time travel with us through our founding, our great expansion west, and the myriad styles of the American eras. We will place special honor to our military, our inventors, our thinkers, our leaders, and our artists! Our American music perfectly represents our history – challenges and triumphs. Freedom is 250!

Do you have fond memories of your first introduction to the symphony orchestra? This concert is for you, and the entire family – all generations! We will perform Britten’s “Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra”, Dukas’ “Sorcerer’s Apprentice (from Disney’s “Fantasia’), and St. Saens’ “Carnival of the Animals”. Bring the kids! These timeless classics will start new memories and spark new interests! Bonus: As a part of the concert, we will have a question/answer session for kids of all ages, and there will be a special musical instrument petting zoo for the little ones. Fun for all!
